I would believe using 0w40 would actually offer more protection, as it is easier to flow and the oil would flow faster to get to vital engine parts when the engine is cold.

Flow is only one factor in the protection oil delivers. More important is the film strength, especially when your shafts are rattling around at low engine speeds and heavier loads. Each time a bearing is hit, it is another nail in the coffin of the engine. 0W40 does not provde the film strength needed in these conditions.

People hear the noises, yet somehow think that metal to metal noises are not bad for the engine?

Even those who are die hard Porsche fanatics....why would you use a lower quality oil like 0W40 when there are plenty of better oils on the Porsche approved list? Even if you have not seen enough evidence or opinions against the use of 0W40 to convince you, why would you risk using it when there are so many unanswered questions about it?

Yes, I did. In this case, quality is defined as the oil's ability to perfrom as required to protect your engine. 0W40 does not do so as well as other oils. Therefore it is "lower quality".

I agree with that. His radiator fan mod is a great example.
