Default Can you feel the Vario-cam plus kick in?

I've of course been paying very close attention to any unusual sound/rumble/vibration that eminates from behind...anything that might hint at an IMS issue. At between 3100 and 3200 rpm (most noticeable in 3rd & 4th) I feel a slight blip from the engine that feels like an increase in torque. I know this is where the torque curve starts to flatten, so I wonder if it is just the vario-cam plus doing it's thing as oppossed to a crritical vibration point pointing to a future problem. Anyone else ever feel the same "blip" at that or any other RPM???

Yes. It's a critical vibration point pointing to a future problem. Definitely.

Sorry. Could not resist. Particularly since you opened the post with "of course paying close attention to anything that might hint at IMS".

Yes, that's the variocam. Normal. It is most noticeable when you slowly accelerate, non-existent if you go WOT. It means you are driving like a wimp! Just step on that gas, drive it like you stole it, enjoy the car, and stop listening for problems and instead just listen to that glorious flat-6 howl!

I'll have to pay attention and see if I feel it... but usually I'm above 3k RPM in whatever gear I'm in, so I'm already past the transition. If I'm under 3k RPM, I'm hard on the gas to get the revs up!

You may be feeling the intake tuning flap activating which suddenly changes the power curve of the engine. If your throttle is 30% or more open, the flap will slam shut at 3120 rpm causing, a sometimes jerky change in power.

There you go..that's what I was looking for..BMW has the same thingto change the tuned length of the intake runners...I wondered if Porsche had the same thing..that's exactly what it feels like and happens at the right time.. Take pity on me, I've had the car less than 3 weeks and am still feeling it out..
