Default APR tuning??

I know this topic has been discussed at length, but I haven't run across any posts or information on APR tuning for Porsche. Is anyone familiar with the ECU flash software from APR?

I'm considering APR primarily because I live in the metro-Detroit area and there just isn't a lot of Porsche tuners in the area who can flash the car (the closest Revo dealer is near Chicago), with of course the exception being a local APR tuner who has done the mod for several P-cars in the area. Auto Europe in Birmingham is a GIAC dealer, but they recommended that I not flash my car in that there will be no noticeable improvement, even with my mods. They only recommend the GIAC flash for TTs.

I have a 2000 996 3.4L NA, 6spd. My car has Cargraphic headers and exhaust, K&N CAI and I just ordered the IPD Plenum. BTW, I replaced the oiled K&N filter with an AEM dry filter and my CEL problems have disappeared.

Steve's European Automotive is willing to flash the car with the APR chip, while doing a before and after dyno ($125). If I'm not happy with the seat of the pants performance results or dynos, they are willing to remove the flash without charging me for it. Seems like a offer too good to pass up.

My other option is the Softronic kit...

APR is VERY good Audi Tuner. I would expect nothing less with Porsche products. I have been eyeing them myself. Please post results of what you find.

Will do. I have already spoken to Mike at Steve's European Automotive in Waterford, and we are planning the test sometime in April/early-May once the weather breaks and the car is taken out of storage.

Unfortunately I don't have a basline dyno of the car before any of the current mods were added. The car was purchased with the Cargraphic exhaust, I added the K&N CAI and the soon-to-be-added Plenum. I will definate post the before and after dynos to show the difference with and without the ECU flash.

The other attraction to the APR is the ability to adjust the settings, even return to factory (OEM) settings through the cruise control...quite nice actually in that you can change the settings on the fly based on octane.

My last car (02' Audi TT 6 spd) was tuned by APR and I was very happy with the results over stock, but my TT was a turbo. I doubt you'd see a significant difference with your normally aspirated Porsche unless you're doing exhaust, intake etc. as well.

I just ordered the Softronic and loaded the new flash file myself onto the ECU. I live in MA so I don't quite have the car out yet, but the process is very easy - and better yet, they also give you the stock file, so you can load that back on anytime you need to...everything is thru a laptop and a USB cable, so you don't have the go anywhere to to the ECU upgrade!!!

I emailed Scott at Softronic on Sunday and am waiting to hear back from him. I also received my Plenum on Monday and am planning to install it this weekend. I've also exchanged email with George at Revo, unfortunately the closest dealer is a bit too far for me to take my car to have it chiped, unless of course I make a weekend out of it.

While I realize that the flash might provide some improvement given my other mods, I'm still a bit skeptical. Which is why I won't flash the ECU whitout doing a before and after dyno, especially since I have an opportunity to perform the sequence at one time.

Softronic has already done these comparisons before with APR/Revo and do not have any need to perform more. I appreciate you in asking of the company however several were enough and I would not expect the outcome to be different.

Best,
Scott
