Got in in a hurry to move the car at the gas station, to allow the next person to use the pump and broke the lid (which I had left open)-hinge so easily when I hit it sideways.
I thought this was a pre 2002 issue
Worse still the dealer carries plenty of pre 2002 hinges but the newer version is on order from Germany.
Possibly if they allowed the lid to open slightly more, close to the seat backs, this could be prevented.

Mine was a plastic hinge on my 99 996. Pelican parts has a $25 replacement hinge that's metal and cures the problem. Easy DYI.

I cant believe those parts cost $25, Porsche should be giving those away!

I did this DIY a couple of months ago. There's a DIY on RennTech for this that I followed it and it went smooth. Using a Dremmel to grind the plastic, makes the job look better.
