okay, so now i have tested the starter. very wierd results:

works when out of the car, doesn't work when in the car.

it's getting power but doesn't move or make a noise. when i remove it and give it power it works. now i'm stumped... ideas???

Check your grounds and make sure everything is clean and well connected. I had the same problem on another car and it turned out that I just didn't tighten down the connection at the battery. Felt like a real dummy that day... Especially when you remove and replace an engine it's likely you missed a ground...

thanks for the compliments guys! i'm gonna start hunting down these cars with fried engines, i would love to get my hands on a 6spd for cheap.

i just noticed that since i bought this car in january, i've only put on 300 miles... just not a big fan of the tiptronics i guess...

Why was there issues with the wiring harness and intake? Was it the drive by wire or did you do something other than a direct swap?

By the way congrats on the DIY!

two reasons. wiring harnesses are different on tips and manuals. the motor they gave me came out of a manual and i have a tip. the intakes are different because porsche modified the 3.4 at some point. i had an early 3.4 and the engine i got was a later 3.4

Great job and qwick too. The sixspd tranny's are hard to find GL on the hunt.

Spotted this at 6speed on tranny, but not exactly cheap.

good lookin out mother, i actually just bought a 6spd cabrio today with a ****ty motor. talk about putting your money where your mouth is, right? (see previous posts, lol) anyways, i hope to get it running by monday....

it's white, navy top, navy int (almost black), stick, clear corners all around, 80k miles on the clock, and pretty cherry aside from some front bumper scuffs.

gonna pop in a zero mile reman motor and new sachs clutch kit this week. hopefully it all turns out well and i can finally dump my tiptronic (ugh!)

Sounds like good find with great timing and you are right your Karma is working. I am looking for a rebuilt engine for mine right now, if you could please PM me when you hammer out a price, maybe I can use this as leverage with my dealer on getting best price so far $8200 is lowest I have seen. Have fun.
