86 944 2001-2007
98 540i 2004-present
94 f-150 2005-present
01 986S 2007-present

I had a bunch more 944's but they only stayed a few months.
I hope to keep the boxster another 5 years or so then get a 987 (no kids) or 997 (kids)

'05 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution
'03 SVT Ford Focus
'01 Porsche 996 C4
'08 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution

So, yeah, I'm crap with my finances.

In Canada, one method to get around paying taxes is if you do a private-to-private trade where both cars are of similar value.

I'm currently contemplating a straight trade for an NSX with another private owner. Neither party would have to pay any taxes. As for the NSX, that's a discussion for a different thread.

I'm too cheap to trade cars in only because I don't want to pay sales tax on each transaction. If it weren't for that I would have traded up to a 2005, 997 by now.

That's interesting, I wonder do we have that system in place in my area?

Current 996 will never be traded. If i really get the itch it'll go to friend or to another enthusiast.

We lease or purchase. I've traded/sold both of my S4's in the last 3 years - the first with 500 miles (to buy the P-car), and the second with 1200 miles (tranny issues) to buy a new Audi TTR. I think no more S4's in my future. I have no plans to trade or sell the Porsche. Wife's 328xi is gone next March at lease end.

Phil,

I'd love to see picks of the Audi TT. I still remember seeing the TT show car before it's introduction at the Chicago Auto Show.

Great looking car.

I had my last Audi for 8 years (170,000 miles). I purchased the Boxster new in 2000 and I'll probably never sell it. The 996 will probably become my next race car (when it gets over 100k miles).

I keep my cars a looooong time. It's the best way to control depreciation.

Given I've owned some articles of clothing, accessories, shoes, etc., that are 12+ years old, I wouldn't consider myself a fickle owner of anything. Strangely, however, I've yet to keep a car past 6 years (that being my 996). The majority of my cars have been traded in or sold around 3-4 years. Not that I grew tired of them; the family needs just changed for one reason or another. Since my 997 is a want and not a need, I don't see myself tire of it anytime soon. After all, I only traded in my 996 because of the lack of many options I didn't think I wanted, only to realize later they were must-haves. Now that my 997 is fairly loaded, there should be no reason for discontent.

Great looking car.
It will look like this - only with 19" RS4 style wheels and black leather interior since I ordered the S-line package. It's a 3.2L V6 with Quattro and six speed. This pic shows a car with 18"s and the stitched "baseball optic" seats, which I also considered. But, with the nice equipment and more aggressive styling of the S-line, I went with it as it also includes a short shifter - car's fun and should be a wonderful daily driver.

I will post pics of the TT next to the 4S when it arrives. I can't wait to see the car either! You don't have to warn me about Tim - he scares the crap out of me with his picture fetish.
