Default 996 years to avoid?

Hi all,

I'm getting ready to sell my 993 and I am interested in a 996 turbo.

Are there any model years to avoid or certain options to stay away from?

Are there any looming problems with a 996 like the 993 air injection port clogging and resulting CEL?

How is the performance of the 5 speed tip in the 996? Does it slow the car down a lot comapred with the 6 speed? I ask this because Porsche seems to rate the 2007 tip turbo a little faster than the six speed.

Thanks!

Any 996TT is a good one. No worries about any of them. The engines are pretty much bullet-proof.

The 996TT tiptronic accelerates slower than the manual, unlike the 997TT tip. I don't think it "slows the car down a lot compared to the 6-speed", but it IS a bit slower. Tip or manual, though, it'll be a beast.

02+ are better. The early 01's had bumperettes and heavy solid spoke wheels. They switched over to hollow spoke wheels mid-year. They improved the interior, stereo and added some nice options (aero kit, X50 engine upgrade) in 02'. If it were me, I would look at an 02'+. There are no issues like the one you mentioned with the 993.

I will go for a turbo some time soon also, 02 and up had some small changes on the interior, new dash with a glove box (the order cars wont have one) cup holder and some other changes here an there, also the PCM 2 is something that only the 02 and up cars have and it is the way to go if you like the navi in the car!

I think '02 was when they started putting gove boxes in. This is much more important than engine, gearbox, and wheel/tires.

I would avoid the years prior to 1998 for the 996.

And after 04. Really, there were only about six good years for the 996. The rest were really pretty suspect...
