I'm thinking of purchasing a replica replacement as my 996 rear wheel.

Is it worth having my OEM rim repaired? And if I have it repaired should I switch back to the OEM Rim once it's repaired?

what kind of damage does your OEM have. If it is just curb rash or a slight bend, i'd say DEFINITLY have them fixed as it isn't a difficult job (send it out to a professional finishing and repair service...around here its about 80$).
Replicas are heavier than stock, if you can avoid it, why add weight?

There is a crack in the rim.

how far in does it go?
chances are the wheel may be toast. take it to a professional and get their opinion, but I would replace it just to be sure.
it looks like a solid spoke turbo twist, you should be able to find plenty of OEM wheel singles to replace it for cheap. check ebay, i know that tehre are a bunch for sale in the rennlist classifieds (there's a guy with like 10 wheels for sale..starting at 150$). also check the 993 and 944 forums since they also use the same wheels.

On the outside, basically what you see in the blury picture is as far as it goes. I cannot see if it continues under the tire, though. I haven't seen anything on Ebay as of yet.

However, repairing is a good option. I had a slight bent in one of my front wheels and brought it to “Ye Ole Wheels Shop” in Elkridge, MD. They did a great job and have a very good reputation. Worth a try! If they say it's un-repairable, then you can still think about replacing it - but replace it with an OEM wheel; turbo twists are frequently on e-bay. You'll further need to check if you have solid or hollow spoke twists.

I'm unable to find anything on ebay.. The site you mentioned wanted $795 for one rim.. I've seen OEM '05 sets for $900. I can't believe I cannot find an 18" OEM turbo twist set or wheel.

Give Wheel Enhancement a call to see what they would charge you for a replacement. Even one OEM at a little higher price will still be cheaper that 4 aftermarket wheels. Here is a link to the hollow spoke Turbo wheel listed on their site.

I have some polished 18in oem turbo twists for sale. I'll make you a great deal if you are interested. I would much rather sell to a Rennlister for less vs going the ebay route.

I would try and have it fixed. If you find a place that knows what they are doing, its often the cheapest route. If the crack goes further, I don't think it can be welded; but since you were able to hold air the way it is, it probably doesn't.
The shops that do this seem always to be small independent operations. I have used two near me "Rim Pro" and "Rim Works." Not that it helps you any...

Thanks everyone.. I'm just going to do an insurance claim and pay dealer price ($1200) for the rim. I hope someone has it in stock. I will, though, attempt to have the cracked rim repaired.
