Talking Hey Steve! Did your C4S make it to Germany?

Why yes, it did - Thanks for asking!

Yah Hoo - what a ride home to Stuttgart from Bremerhaven. I'll fill you folks in a little later - I have to buy a new battery and install it.

A couple of highlights:

There are a LOT of unlimited streaches of Autobahn up north.

My Sunroof bangs and makes wierd noises at over 130 mph.

PCM nav would not turn on.

More later...

Steve,

Good for you! I'll bet the Autobahn ride was fun. Can't wait to see some pics!

Woho! Great to hear that you both had fun! I'm sure the C4S is thankful to be able to stretch out her legs after years of speed limits from the horse carriage age.

Any tips on how to prepare the car for the long trip over the ocean? I'll have my C2 Cab shipped to Europe later this year as well.

Hummm, tips...

I'd consider a priority start battery protection module. My non Porsche battery cost 180 euro - Ouch! The priority start will protect the battery when it drops below 12.3 or so. You push the lighter to reactivate (leave instructions in the car).

When you decide if you want a foo foo shipper or bare bones let me know I'll have some advice there.

I have a post over in the General section outlining the costs and suggestions.

More if I come up with any...

This car loves tripple numbers! 600 miles - 5 1/2 hours! Not too bad... That includes fuel and fast food feeds. Slept for 12 hours when we finally made it home. We had planned a weekend stopping at Frankfurt and Weisbadhen but with the dead battery we could not turn off the engine. We may of set a small record that we did not want.

This car is way more capable than the C6 Vette. Why did I wait so long?

Tim,

Before you leave the fold you should come over here and see what the sled will do. You will be out running us poor 996;s soon. Don't forget the slugs!

Steve,

If I could drive triple digits on my upcomming 1,100 mile trip to Dallas, it would take me just over 10 hours. However, as US speed limits it will take just over 16 hours.

Trple digit speeds for more than a brief moment or two...must be fantastic, and to be legal at the same time...priceless!! Enjoy the opportunity to really drive your Porsche as it was truly meant to be driven. Keep the stories coming.

One of the key reasons that I took the position here - Autobahns! Down south Germany there are not too many streaches that are free. The "ghost sign" is far too infrequent. Ghost is a grayed out sign that indicates that all restrictions are removed (gray circle with a slash). At one point I was cruising at about 130 in the right lane and was passed by two vehicles that I could not identify - they both had the sound of a V12 - shocked the bejesus ot of me! The Frau was asleep (yes at 130mph) and when I jerked the car to the right a couple of feet, a natural reaction, she woke up and stearnly said - what is wrong - can't you drive? Humbling - and I thought I was doing well. Strandards change I guess.

when I still lived in the Netherlands (Amsterdam) and freelanced in Hamburg I had the pleasure to drive the 350 miles between Amsterdam and Hamburg a couple of times a month....with a 928s....On the clock 170MPH....don't know how exact that is...but still it was a fantastic feeling and reading this tread makes me wanting to go back and do this in my 996
