Default cental locking problem

Key will no longer open or lock doors. Checked engine lid, boot, passenger door, etc, changed key fob battery. Any ideas short of going to the dealer and dropping $500? Thanks!

I will also be interested in the answers on this question. My key still works but it usually takes a couple of tries and holding it up closer to the window. About 10% of the time I get tired of trying and have to lock or unlock the old fashioned way. I changed batteries in both sets of keys but it did not seem to make a difference. I never used to have this problem, it would unlock from a decent distance.

I believe someone had a write-up on removing the driver side A-pillar and stripping the sheath off of the antenna wire to increase reception.

Anyone have their key remote not function if you haven't driven the car in a few days? the remote does nothing, unlock the door with key, drive a few minutes, get out and it's all back to normal again!?

I understand this is a 'battery saving' feature and completely normal. Mine sat for a week and would only unlock with the key. Worked fine after that.

Automatically does this after five days to preserve the battery. It's in the manual.

As UFO stated, this is normal. After 5 days the car systems "go to sleep." If you unlock the car by inserting the key into the door, it "awakens" the systems. Everything should function as usual after that occurs.
