Question Spacers on Sport Design wheels

I've read every thread on wheel spacers, but am left with questions. Many posts talk about the ease of adding 14/15mm on the back and 7mm on the front.

But others indicate you need to measure the space from the inside lip of the fender wheel arch to the wheel to see now much extra gap is available. When I measure this distance on my pre-facelift 996 with Sport Design wheels, the inside of the wheel arm lip seems to line up with the outside of the wheel body already. This would seem to indicate spacers aren't possible.

Clearly the rubber of the tire on the wheel curves inwards, so that at the top of the tire there is more gap to the lip than at the wheel alloys. But whether it will hit lip with spacers will depend on how far the suspension travels over bumps/ruts.

My wheels are Sport Design with 10J x 65 on the back and 7.5J x 50 on the front (stock). Stock suspension.

Has anyone tried the 14/15mm on the back, 7mm on the front and had their Pcar over potholes and speed bumps without rubbing on the wheel arch lip?

I have 7mmF/15mmR on the same size wheels and no rubbing issues.

I have a 01 C4 and I put 15mm spacers front and rear and did H&R lowering springs and it fits perfect. Absolutly no rub. Make sure you order the longer lug nuts.

Spacers:

I have the Turbo Twist and must say that I tried the 14mm in the front and found them to be too wide for my tast. They are perfect in the rear.

I have the 7mm for the front as as soon as it warms up (Chicago area) I will of course mount them.

Pix to follow!

Not sure if there's any difference in offsets between the twists and sprt designs but if you want the almost flush look then 15's are the way to go.

I have a pair of 15mm TA spacers for sale too

For reference sake:

+1. I had 14's all the way around with my Sport Designs when I had the H&R springs on the car and if anything I thought that the rear could have used a couple mm less...but I never felt the fronts were out too far. I have 8' fronts too and not the standard 7.5's.

When I got a little more serious with the suspension and the ride height came down even more the rears rubbed so I sold the spacers. May have to get some 7mm's again for the front as with the negative camber I'm running it looks like the wheels are WAY too smal for the car.

Here's a picture I found of my car with 14mm spacers front and rear. Again my fronts are 8's not 7.5's (18 x 8 et52).

This picture is really crappy but I should be off to a proff shoot in the next few weeks so I'll post them up.

By the way BC, performed an "Amberectomy' yesterday and the lights look stunning, pic below is prior to surgery...

I had 15mm spacers in the rear on 10 inch 5-spoke wheels (offset 65) and 7mm spacers in the front on 8 inch (offset 50) wheels. When I changed to my suspension from H&R lowering springs to a GT3 suspension (stock ride hight), I had to swap the spacers front - rear so I now have 15mm spacers in the front and 7mm spacers in the rear. I had one occasion of rubbing even with the 7mm spcers in the rear; first the fender lip in the rear is very large and second, I run 285/35/18 tires in the rear. However, with a 2.5 negative camber in the front, I don't feel that the wheels stick out too much with the 15mm spacers. There's still some gap and there's almost no lip in the front fenders.
