Default How to make pre '02 Litronic brighter?

I was wondering if anyone has ever noticed that the MK1 litronic is not as bright as some of the other "xenon" headlights. I am comparing to my Bimmer for reference. Is it because the p-car sits lower?

I would like to know if anyone has ever made their '99 to '01 litronic "see better" at night.

TIA

Hmm, have not noticed that on my 99... but you could always upgrade the HID bulb, I hear the Phillips Ultranon 6000k comes highly recommended!

Actually, the Ultranon 6000K will be even less bright than the stock bulbs. The "cooler" the color (eg. 6000K, 7000K, 8000L) the lower the light output.

But unless you guys are Superman with super power eyes, you're not going to notice much diff between 4300K and 6000K. Now if you go higher than that your eyes will get tired quicker since the 4300K was selected because it's close to daylight while still OK with oncoming traffic... all the detailed **** engineers get paid to take into consideration. Your mileage will vary since not all eyes are created equal, some here are older than others, etc.

Heck, I don't have HID in my car and came from the ultra-crazy efficient S2000 HIDs and the great M3 HIDs... but I really have no complaints with the Sylvania setup on mine. Sure, would I like HID, yes. Is it making my nighttime driving any less pleasureable? Hell naw. Now if I had the halogen setup of the MK1, most definitely I'd ditch that dated units and get projector lights.

Just make sure if you do swap bulbs, you get them from Philips or Sylvania. I think Porsche uses Philips bulbs exclusively.

You could run off-road 100W bulbs, but I'm not sure if the wiring can take the additional amperage draw.

The stock bulbs may be getting tired. They will reduce light output as they get older. Though I doubt you'll notice much difference to justify the costs of replacement.

Not entirely accurate, as usual. 6000k Phillips bulbs referenced in this discussion put out about 2400 lumens whereas 4300k bulbs put out 3200 lumens. That is a fair amount of light output you are losing to get the blue coloration of a 6000k bulb. There is a reason that stock hids never come in a 6000k color temp. If you would like to pay the same (or more) money for a light that is both less luminescent and less usable in coloration then be my guest. This is a good read on the subject: http://www.intellexual.net/hid.html.

To the ts, I have been nothing but happy with the output from my mk1 litronics.

You could switch to the newer 50 watt HID bulbs and 50 watt ballast.

But I wouldn't go with anything other than 4300K
