Ok. we have a winner. Not the full answer but that's ok.
It was the "Ferry Christmas Bicylinder", with a 2 speed air cooled engine and it was a Scale version (a miniature replica) of the Austro Daimler Model «Prince Henry».

I've known the reasoning behind it's current location, and I put about 12 seconds of thought into this whole thing, and have come to a ground-breaking conclusion.
I think the left-side ignition switch actually makes it SLOWER to get in and start the car.
I have to switch the keys to my left hand after opening my door. I don't want to scratch the car so I keep my keys in the right hand while opening it with the left. It would too be awkward to open it with my right hand.
