I have an annoying rattle coming from the passenger side of my 2004 996. Sitting there when somebody else is driving I still have a hard time figuring out where it's coming from, but seems to generally be the seatbelt mechanism on the pillar, although it could possibly be from the door as well.
Any usual suspects to look at, or just pull the paneling off and see what's loose?

I had a bad rattle when the 4S was fairly new. It ended up being inside the driver's door. There is a sliding piece of metal which holds the door fully open or half open which "retracts" into the door when it is closed. Mine was too close to some metal in the interior of the door and would vibrate against it, metal to metal.
I hope this helps!
