Default Convertible top repair

howdy all...

my 996 soft top is in need of some repairs. as you can see from pictures, the wire which runs on the very edge of the top snapped at the very bottom (only clip is left in place):

because of the wire not pulling on the side of the top, it does not end up sitting inside the grove properly:

it looks like i should be able to pull the old cable out and put a new one in. the questions are:

1. is this an easy DIY project? (looks like it)
2. i could not find how the wire is secured on the opposite end.
3. any special tools i might need?

thanks.

Ref earlier posts.... Did you store your car with the top up or down??? A tech told me "UP" was preferred!!!

rdstemler, when we use our hard tops thru the winter, the soft top must be down. I doubt that Porsche would sell the HT if leaving the top down was a problem.

jkb...I got exactly the same problem...there is a cable and it snapped...I never put the top up....so I guess I got to change that after the repair.
