Going to have some suspension work done, lower it a little bit, get her some new shoes, install a new top, sport exhaust, new sound/nav system and custom radar.
But what I really want is a custom paint job.
I've been looking online and have found very few 996's with custom paint. I'm looking for ideas. Has anyone seen anything interesting that might get me started?
Also, Ai Design in Tuckahoe, NY has done some cool custom work (see the matte black CLS). I'm in CT also and I'd like to see how your project turns out. Good luck.
Oh, and here's my "semi-custom" silver/black with red 996
I'd love to see your 996 in person. I'm looking at some bumper options and there aren't many custom P-cars on the road in my area. Where are you located?
I personally would not do anything wild with the paint (i.e. multi-colour, graphics, etc.), the Porsche looks good being a solid colour, but if you want to do car shows with other customs then go for it, but go to some shows first to get an idea. Using a different colour than factory is fine as long as it pops IMHO.
Custom Paint...as in colour or design?

Actually, I am thinking multi-color. I like my guards red but am thinking maybe a new coat of guards red with another color... I don't know... hood stripes... side stripes... I'm open for anything. Can't believe how few 996's I've been able to find with any custom paint work...

IMHO stripes on the hood (aka Racing Stripes) are used on everything out there you can think of already, so you would not be any different. But here's an idea, and the stripes have to go all the way from the front to the back including bumpers, if you stop at the bottom of the rear deck lid or half way down the front bumper it just looks incomplete and stupid. The stripes should not stand out much (not white or black), use a silver or a light grey maybe another red that can just be seen but not too noticeable, kinda like ghosting (I have ghosting on my Mustang and you can only see it from certain angles, really cool - hard to take photos of). But you have to find a really good painter, one that does custom work and can show you what options you have. Do not go to just any shop, go to a car show (rod and custom) and ask around. Of course you will pay more but we are talking custom.

Another thing you could consider is have a custom "wrap" applied to your car. You could work with a graphic designer (I know a good one) to get the design you wanted. I saw one that a guy posted on the 997 forum a while back. I think he said it cost $3,000 to wrap the entire car. When he gets tired of it he can remove it and have the original paint back.
Hey Tim,
If you can tell me how to go about looking up that 997 forum posting I will try to find it. I'd like to see it.
Thanks,
Andy T
P.s. I figure'd you know how to do this. I will go to search and check "wrap" or "custom wrap" any other advice?
