Default Just came back from a local Porsche shop - Interesting news (3.4l oiling)

Spoke with the owner of a local performance shop here in the ATL area. There is a similar mod to the x51 oiling update. The oil pump from the Turbo is taken and used as well as a similar feed tube. You still have to machine the valve cover, but I am thinking this will be cheaper to do. (meaning - no Porsche Motorsports parts.)

I should know more on this very soon. stay tuned.

Chad

yes, will stay tuned for this... is the extra pump for oil starvation under braking? from what I understand the turbo doesnt have the oil pump like the gt3 have.

Cool. You have a barking Porsche. What option code was that? J/K

Here's more info:

Upon speaking with him, the x51 motorsports kit is no longer available. (Some of us knew this....it is now confirmed). The alternative is to take the 996 Turbo's scavenge pump and feed tube and retrofit it to the 3.4L. Ironically, this setup is very close (if not identical) to the x51 oiling kit. The difference lies in the fact that you are required to cut the heat shield a bit to make the feed tube fit. When doing so, the most forward mounting screw now becomes available as a point to support the tube itself.

It really was an eye opening discussion. I have requested part numbers as well as a quote for install. I should have more information tomorrow.

Lastly (this part made me smile big)....he mentioned that the 3.4L is a better motor (in his opinion) for upgrading and tuning for the track. He also said the 3.4L can have a higher tuned RPM rate than the larger powerplants. I am really looking forward to learning more....stay tuned.

bump,
to subscribe and see where this goes. I'm looking at keeping this motor for a while and due to lack of driving, it's looking like this is going to be a track only car. Anything that'll save the motor is worth an eye on.

I'd love to see pictures of this (of the install procedure and machining modifications, really). If you get to "hang around his shop", bring your camera!

I am very interested to hear more details about this system.

I would not program the engine to operate at a higher RPM however. IMHO, the increase in performance would be very minimal, and it would not justify the increased stress on the engine. This of course assumes that engine mods have raised peak horsepower RPM past the 6,800 RPM stock reading.

I'm staying tuned and I'd like to take a look at the guy's vitae and have him back-up his comments differntiating the non-GT1 blocks.

Motor Werks Racing in Cumming, GA.

Spoke with Matthew Forte

Nice guy, lots of info on the car. He even had one in the back completely setup. Motons, cage, blah, blah, blah...

My preference is Performance Imports. Peter has always treated me right. I will call him to find out if he can do this modification as well.

FWIW - I also found an AWESOME powder coating operation.

The information I provided is coming directly from an experienced engine builder. The car on the floor had a redline at 7800.

His shop was filled with race cars. As I do not know what your experience is building race motors, I'll take his word for it for now.
