I'm not familiar with the 996 front suspension, but wonder if there's a chance that the coil on that side shifted when you dropped the car? On my 993, I seem to remember that the top of the coil nests in the rubber 'top hat' and the bottom sits freely on the machined aluminum height adjuster (Bilstein HD). It should be easy to raise that corner again and check for proper coil orientation.
