Default Shipping a hardtop?

When I traded my '01 cab in for an '04 from the same dealer, he told me when he moves the '01 he'll call me to pick up the hardtop. He never did, and now he told me I can sell it.

What is the most practical way to ship a bulky 70lb item like this, and how would some of you pack it?

When I moved I wanted to drive the Porsche and be able to put the top down. I built a crate for it and lined it w/stryofoam.

A subject near and dear to my heart... When I bought my 99 C4 Cab, it did not have a hard top. I picked up a used black top locally for $500, but it was the wrong color. A few weeks later I noticed a red top for sale, and found out that it was the original top for my car. So, I put the black top up for sale on ebay, with the note that it must be picked up locally. Well, of course somebody bought it in Colorado, and I did end up shipping it. I first crated the top, but calculated that it would cost about $400 to ship and I would have had to provide either a loading dock or forklift at pickup and delivery locations. So then I wrapped it in foam insulation and very stiff cardboard, then encapusulated it in clear plastic wrap. You just have to make sure that all sharp corners are double reinforced with cardboard. Weight was just under 100lbs. Shipping ended up costing about $150.

I used freightquote.com to get the lowest rate.

That's a freight ship. Crate that puppy up and send it on out.
