well...is it still on the wheel? If so...spray some wd-40 on it and as much around it, and let it sit for a bit. There is also another product that is great, but can't remember what it's called. Anyone?

If you're just worried about the cosmetic effect of seeing the rust

Buy silver touch-up paint from Pep Boys - clean and paint offending lug nut sliver (just the end you can see) - problem goes away

Cheap solution, works perfectly - no one will ever know!

A wire wheel on a grinder or drill will take the rusty look back down to metal...then take better care of the lug nuts better by periodic cleaning.

Also you could always purchase a new set, flea bay has them along with any wheel and tire retailer!

Throw it away and buy a new one from your dealer.

Easy.....

I painted the "top hats" on my car about a year or so ago. I also painted the lug nuts. The paint I used was VHT Brake, Caliper, Drum & Rotor Paint SP - 735 Cast Aluminum, which I got at Autozone for $7.95.

Here are a couple of "before" and "after" pics of the top hats and the lug nuts.
Pic #3 shows a close up of the top hat and lug nuts "before" painting and pics #4 & #5 show the "after" results. The last pic is my lug nut "spray booth."

Hope this helps.

My wheels are black so I would prefer to paint my lugs black. Is there any special paint to look for?

Most expensive way , but best overall solution is to but chrome lugs from Booth.

Chuck: Are back here "slumming" again??

Nope, still not sold. It goes up on AutoTrader tomorrow or Thursday. I REALLY wanted a Rennlister to get it, so I would know that it would be appreciated!

Yeah, I hope "pimped out convertible" isn't gone before I sell the 996. It would really be a shame if I missed out on that one!

There are titanium wheel bolts that are expensive. Also stainless steel that are not so expensive.

Thanks!
You have to air it out, keep it dry, and use johnson baby powder, medicated cream will help keep the redness down... and no **** for the whole week.

Not a great application for titanium, IMHO. Stainless, I'd trust. Ti, for wheel bolts, not so much. Not good for high-torque applications like a bolt (can stress crack or stretch), and prone to galvanic corrosion. Also, the quality of Ti is extremely inconsistent where so much of it comes from Russia and China where, setting aside manufacturing quality, the metal isn't alloyed the same way.

Cheapest way not to see it for an extended time is to buy some plastic chrome covers.
