Default Strange airbox plumbing - something wrong here?

I've been trolling around for Mk1 996's lately, looking to get back into a porsche after an unfortunate, expensive detour into BMW M cars.

I found a car on FleaBay that's absolutely gorgeous, but this doesn't look quite right. Not a stock part, and the place where the stock tube (from/to the MAF I assume?) is plugged off. Anyone know what's going on here?

Many thanks,

-chris

thats a fabspeed mod... the red intake and a cap for a throatier, louder intake sound. You can buy the stock rubber piece seperately.

That just looks like the cheapie cool air tube they sell that does nothing more than give you more engine sound feedback. You can see the MAF still connected...or is this a tip and the tube that normally does to the nipple on the connecting piece has been plugged?

It's a 6-speed, and it does look like the MAF is still connected.

Talk about quick answers. I really need to renew my Rennlist membership!

Thanks!

Your renewal will be the best "mod" you can buy....

The MAF is where the plug downstream of the red piping is on the backside. It is not its own component anymore but a cartridge that goes inside the factory airbox piping with I believe two bolts.

Chris - I know you said you were looking for a MKI 996, but I have a 2004 C2 996 for sale. It's a killer deal at $46,000. Check out the link to the classified ad ==> 2004 C2
