Default Tire Question

ok, so I'm cheap - my 996 tires last around 8K miles and I just can't see spending $300 + per tire twice a year. Has anyone tried these tires?
Sumitomo HTR Z II - they have really good reviews on Tire Rack - just wanted to see if anyone here had any direct experience with them ? Thanks.

its not the tires so much as it is the negative camber setting...do a search, have been questioning this myself and am about to replace the rears and correct form a -1 factory camber setting to a -.07 factory setting to increase tire life

Not only the camber but rear toe-in can seriously affect treadwear and tire life.

I had mine adjusted to less aggressive settings and went from 6000 miles up to about 16000 currently on Michelin pilot sports.

If you're just doing street driving/distance commuting you might also add slightly more pressure to the tires than the manual recommends. This will spread the wear a little more to the center.

Be careful with both of these (ie, dont immediately go doing something crazy on the PCH) until you understand how it affects the car as they will slightly alter the handling characteristics.

I don't currently track the car so I'm happy with my setup.

No experience with Sumis, but I don't recommend the Continental tires as they get very noisy even when slightly worn.

I have these on my 18" rims. No track time, so I can't comment on that. But for street tires, they are a great value and look awesome. They are good on the street and in the wet.

But if you want decent tweeners for track and street, go for Yokohama EVS100. I run these on the track all the time...
