Default C4S Suspension Differences

I'm having trouble with SEARCH function at present or I would start there...

Going to look at a 02 C4S today with 66k miles. Can someone tell me if the suspension is different on 4S versus regular C2? The photos make it look like it sits lower. Were the 02's lower by design than 99-01's?

Thanks.

Keith

The suspension on the C4S is the same as the Turbo suspension. The C2's (regardless of year) have a different suspension.

So is the C4S/Turbo suspension not stiffer/lower than the C2? Hoping to avoid having to do a suspension upgrade out of the gate.

On my last 993 C2, I swapped the stock suspension for the ROW M030 and noticed a tremendous improvement.

The C4S/Turbo suspension is more stiff, but I don't think it's lower due to DOT regulations.

The C4S is the same car as a turbo, except w/out the turbo engine. So it is the suspension is the same. The factory literature describes the Turbo and C4S suspension as 10mm lower than a regular Carrera.
The difference in a Turbo suspension from a C4S suspension is the "S" (sport) modification gets special Bilstein shocks and different spring rates only for the C4S.

10 mm lower then a C2, but it still doesn't look low enough.

I didn't replace the shocks, just swapped out the springs for H&R lowering springs and it looks much better but feels the same.

Here is before

Here is after

I agree; it's not low enough. I splurged for the european C4S struts and springs in front and kept the US/ROW Sport shocks and springs in back to angle the nose down (20mm). I LOVE the lower nose, but it set me back about $2K for 20mm. Many would consider this foolish, but I "absolutely" had to have it.

I realize that I'm probably different than most, but I think the lowered car looks too "squashed" onto the tires. My eyes immediately tell me that something is "wrong" with how the wheel arch relates to the shape of the tire.

You might check out the X73 European Porsche suspension. It consists of new shocks/springs and engine mounts and lowers the car further and totally transforms the handling. Just bolt in pieces and an alignment and you're good to go.

Yup, that's what I'm leaning toward.

For C2/C4: OEM RoW M030 sport suspension lows -20 mm front and -10 mm rear

Stiffer shocks, springs and sway bars with incresase diameter.

C4S/TT have M030 installed

This kit is a bit more stiffer (aprox 15%) than standard one.
The different for you american guys is that US M030 suspension is a bit taller than RoW M030, so if you get this kit installed, always go with RoW

Porsche engineers designed this kit to have best compromise (not too much stiffer, but excellent handling, steering response and cornering). For me it's rather good. I'm not very friendly to change what engineers did.

OEM X74 lows -40 mm front and -30 mm rear (for C2/C4 models)
OEM X73 lows -20 mm front and -10 mm rear (for C4S/TT models)
This kits are similar to 996 GT3 suspension. Very very good even as daily use in good roads with fine asfalt. Too much risk to touch down in garage ramps.

What do you think about the compromise with H&R springs ?
Can you tell us if you notice some improvement with this lower springs, or is it only a aesthetical staff? If they works good, perhaps I'll mount them...
I'm considering to install RoW M030 kit in my car, but standard suspension is only 17.000 km., What springs reference have I to look for in H&R springs to have a good compromise?

Thanks in advance

There is no compromise, the H&R spring are only for looks. They don't do anything for improving handling.
The OEM shocks are quite good, even for the track. I am not a race car driver so going with the X74 setup is not worth it to me because the 4S are ready handles nicely for my ability and the 12-15 track days I do every season.

Plus $400 compared to $4000 ???
