Default Lots of smoke while driving 1999 911 C2

Regards to everyone here! My car is a 1999 911 C2 6-spd Manual with 47,000 miles and NO LEAKS. Yesterday while accelerating in fourth at 6000 RPM I shifted into fifth and stepped on it (yes I was doing about 130 MPH) all of a sudden a huge puff of white smoke blew from my exhaust. Immediately I pulled over and saw oil dripping from underneath. I re-started the car and it sounds healthy just smokes very bad. I had it towed to the dealer (the car is under full warranty) and they are checking it. Anyone had similar issue on their 996?

Best regards!

Mine had the same problem. I got a lot of smoke on hard acceleration - actually looked like a smoke screen behind me. I did not have any lights or anything come on and the car drove normal afterwards. I only saw the smoke maybe twice. I drove easy until I took it in. If I remember correctly the problem was something do with the seal around the spark plugs. Under hard acceleration it was blowing oil out around the plugs. It was all f ixed under Porsche CPO warranty no problem. I did not have any oil dripping though that I could see. that would worry me.

I can check the paperwork when I get home tonight to see exactly what it was. As I recall it was not a big job to correct, but it would have been expensive without the warranty.

If this is a legit post, you are lucky you have a warranty.

Oh it's a very legit post. I purchased the car in early summer and bought a 3 year/36,000 miles full warranty for $2500 which I think will save me here. I only have to pay a $100 deductible.

OK, the service advisor came back with a busted Oil Separator which was causing all the smoke. At the same time they noticed a leaking rear main seal and broken passenger side window regulator. It will all be taken care of under my extended warranty and cost me $100 deductible. The Oil Separator ($600), rear main seal ($1300) and the Window Regulator ($350) = $2250. My warranty costed $2500 so it's almost paid for itself. I'm a happy camper now!!!

Wow - that was a good break. Nice job on the warranty - now you can drive it like you stole it for 33 more months worry free.

How about a proper intro and some pics now before the Pic Police get on you?

LOL nice one. Anyway, I work for Audi/Porsche dealer in Minneapolis area and got an outstanding deal on a 44,000 mile 1999 911 C2. Black Metallic with Silk Leather Interior, Full Leather Upgrade, Leather Dash, Sport Steering, Premium Sound, 6-disc Changer, new set of Michelin Pilot Sports and new brakes. Flawless body and interior, bought for $26,900. Also own a 1996 Audi A6 2.8 quattro which I`m keeping for the Minnesota winters and my fiancee drives a 2002 Audi A6 3.0 quattro Avant. I have to figure out how to post photos here so if anyone can help I will certainly do so. The car in my avatar photo is my 911.

Best regards to everyone here.

Welcome to Rennlist and Congrats on getting the P-car.

Pics? Did someone say PICS????

Here are my "can't miss" instructions for posting a pic. These instructions have NEVER failed to help someone post pics, so the pressure is on YOU to keep my string alive!

All words shown in BOLD indicate buttons. If you are just doing a "Quick Reply" you will have to click on Go Advanced button. Then follow the steps below:

Down below the part of the screen where you type the text and below the Submit Reply, the Preview Post, and Spell Check buttons, there is a Miscellaneous Options section followed by an Attach Files section.

In the Attach Files section, click on the Manage Attachments button.

You will now get a pop-up window. There are 3 buttons Browse, Upload, and Close this Window.

Click on the Browse button and now (in a new pop-up window) you can search on your PC to locate the pic you want to attach. Click on the name of the file you want and then click the Open button. Now click on the Upload button. After the file has been uploaded, you can click on Browse button and repeat the process to upload another pic or click on the Close this Window button.

After you click on the Close this Window, you will be back to the original "message" screen. Your pic file should be listed just above the Manage Attachments button.

If you are finished typing the text, you can click on the Submit Reply button and everyone will be able to see your great looking P-car!

If your pics are too large, you can resize them with MS Paint, or PhotoShop software, or you can do it online at this web site. http://www.resize2mail.com/

Man, I did that over 2 years ago since a lot of newbies kept asking "how do I post a pic?" This way they can't use the excuse "I don't know how!" and I can give them **** if they don't post. It's all in my best interest.

Tim, I usually do the same in Soloporsche forum. Though I did a little DIY (to upload pics, never read it...)
