Default How to replace water pump?

Did a search here and on renntech but couldn't find instructions. Where does this rate on the DIY scale?

At 68000 miles mine's beginning to make the death rattle and upon closer inspection there is evidence of previous seepage around the hoses.

Is there anything special that needs to be done or is it just disconnecting the polyrib, hoses and screws?

Thanks, Keith

Keith, you and I are on the same boat... I too searched Renntech, but found it @ p-car. Vertex (relatively local to you) has the pump at a fair price, even re conditioned ones.

I just did mine a few weeks ago...Its not bad...

Jack up the car, support the engine, remove the support brace for it and the one connected to the exhaust.

Once you remove the airbox, belt, and drain the coolant, it is pretty straight forward.

There are 7 bolts that you need to remove, 2 of which are longer than the others so note their location.

I can get more detailed if need be.

Gator, how long did it take you to do the entire procedure? How old is your car and mileage (mine is a 98 Row with 30K miles).

Thanks guys....in typical fashion I found the p-car link about 3 hours after I had posted here. It looks like a little bit of a hassle to take all the stuff off for access but otherwise pretty straightforward.

One question though....the instructions mention to jack the engine up to unload the mount. What exactly is this taking the load off of that has anything to do with the water pump? How much should you jack it up as it's hard to tell from the photos.

GATOR- how long did it take you?

Thanks for the quick replies!

I did the water pump last month. You will need to loosen the mount to give enough space to pull out the pump. It's really tight. No special tools needed.

Well once you have all the parts it doesnt take that long. I cant tell you how long from start to finish because my local dealer didnt have the parts...

I drained all the coolant, took off the brace and supported the engine and removed the water pump day 1...

The parts came int he next day and I did the rest of it...

Id say you would be looking at 4 hours to do it straight through, with all the tools and parts handy...

The reason you have to support the engine is because you need to loosen the engine brace so you can bend it back in order to fit the water pump out of the engine bay....I would lossen the braces(its on studs) then jack up the engine untill you see the brace lift off the stud slightly. You will then know the engine is supported.
