A/C stopped working today- easy fix?
I've read how the A/C systems on the 996's are fairly solid, so why would my '02 cab stop working w/ only 26k miles on the clock? When I started it up today, there was an unusual whine noise (sounded like a belt slipping?) then the cold air became warm.
I tried cycling the compressor several times by hitting the snowflake button and back to 'auto' and while I could feel a surge in blowing air, the temp remained ambient.
I'm not a big wrencher, but is there anything I can check, or am I in for my first maintenance experience w/ my 996?

Take off the accessory belt if you can and see if you can turn the AC compressor by hand. It sounds like your compressor died if you heard a whine, the compressor is the only rotating AC component besides the blower fan in the cab.
