I recall reading that one guy recommended using a common table fork to lift the needles off the pins. This helped to avoid twisting the needles.

I am going back to my gauge upgrade on my Mustang and the kit I bought came with a 'removal' tool which was very nice (I have attached a photo of the tool). Hopefully the 'kit' you buy also comes with one. This tool made it easy to remove the needles.

Is there a way to change the colour of the lights in the gauges? Are they bulbs?

I saw a kit on ebay that sells replacement led kits that you solder in and it changes to a blue color....
