Doors do not lock when using key remote
I have always used the key remote control to lock and unlock my doors since I bought the car 4 months ago. Now it will not lock the doors. I have changed the battery twice and I can see that when I press the button on the key, the light on the key does work so I am assuming it is sending the signal, but the doors do not lock. I have checked and made sure all windows etc. are closed before proceeding with the locking of the doors. I can manually do it using the key in the door. The light on the stereo head does flash when I have the car off and key out of the ignition. I have read my manual but it doesn't help me out, just says go to your dealer if you have problems. The key does start the car so I am assuming that the electronics in the key and ignition are OK.
I have done a search here on Rennlist but get so many results that it is like looking for a needle in a hay stack.
Any help with what to do is much appreciated.
BTW...I have removed all of my Death Metal CD's from the car just in case any of you think that might be the cause of the problem, but I doubt it would be the cause

Ok, ok, how many keys do you have? Is this the issue with both keys?

Gangsta rap rules what you know about that? (All Eyez On Me)
This happens to me infrequently and based on my search here, it looks like it's a common issue. So much for great German engineering.

It happens to me, too, when the car has sat for several days (perhaps a week?). I'm guessing that electrical power to the sensor that receives the signal from the key is shut off to conserve power.
As soon as I unlock the door manually, the remote works again immediately.

You probably have a bad remote. They go bad all the time according to the dealer. But I have a similar problem. Sometimes it will lock and unlock instatly like it should, but sometimes I have to hold down the Lock/Unlock or Trunk release button for a while (about 30 secs) and then it will work. There is not logic to it, just happens almost every other time I use it. The dealer told me that the remotes are just bad but he has replaced it twice and the last one worked for maybe three days and now I have the same problem. It is covered under the extended waranty but I am sick of having to deal with this, especially because they want to keep the car for a couple days and they wont give me a rental.

A couple of things to try:
1. reset the remote...this is done by removing the battery, placining it in backwards polarity for 15 seconds and then replace it correctly
2. get a new battery
3. if the programming went on it you have to go to someone with PST2 or PIWIS to reprogram it (like a stealer)
another poster had the problem of the remote deactivating for lack of use...after about 5-7 days the remote disables itself and this is fixed by mechanically unlocking the car and hitting the remote within 10 seconds.
