I'd like to get my 2002's windows tinted. I know that the tint shop usually request that you dont open the windows for a few days. But on the 2002, and I'm sure just about every other year, when you open and close the doors, the windows move up and down a little.
Does anyone think this will be an issue? If so, is there a way to defeat this feature for a few days?

Thanks!
Had mine done and tinted to the top and was told that with the new glues on the tint (ceramic lined) it will not be a problem and he was correct.
So don't worry about it unless you are getting a cheap tint job
I had mine tinted also, and never had any problem with the windows little up/down feature. The tint has been on for over a year...no problems as long as you take it to the folks who do it professionally. I paid about $185 for five windows...the two fronts are dicey....you have to stay within CA percentage standards for tint. Even though mine are supposedly within limits...I did have one motorcop stop me when he thought my seat belt wasnt' fastened tell me that "your windows are tinted buit I'm going to let it go this time".
Just had mine done and they were fine. They tell you to try and reduce the amount of times you open and shut the doors during the first 3 days or so and also to leave the car in the sun for the tint to cure.
Does the tinting hurt the radar detector performance?
I was told by my tint guy that it depends on the material and manufacture used.
I just got of the phone with my good friend who actually runs a window tinting place who did mine. A lot of information to know but I will put down some bulletin points.
Metalized lined - radios etc. will be interfered with as it has titanium oxides in it.
Ceramic lined - made with polyster for better clarity and has more UV inhebiters.
Carbon lined - heat rejection not as good, latest on the market.
The cost for each one goes up Metalized > Ceramic > Carbon
The Pinnacle Series is the stuff I used and Ceramic lined. It is specifically designed for automotive use, not home use. For 5 windows = $399 but shyte is good and looks good. Also the installer counts towards the end result on how they lay it down.
What percentage of tint did you all do, I want something darker, but probably within the law. Havent decided.
15% rear
35% sides
- visible light and transmission
(I won't go into the laws within states requirements, lets just say you must tell the tinting person what you want and if you want it within the law or not )
BTW - 5% is considered limo
Here's are some pics from different views. To me if you did 5% it would be too dark and it takes away the exotic look, but that's IMHO
Insofar as the law is concerned...the only windows you have to worry about are the driver/passenger fronts and the windshield. The guys who tint them have all the specs and examples for you to choose from. You can go as dark as you want on the side/rear and back...but consider night driving for the back window...
IYou can go as dark as you want on the side/rear and back...but consider night driving for the back window...
Just to note this is state specific. In SC there is a maximum tint for all windows and (I think) tint on any part of the front windshield is completely illegal.
I believe in AZ the limit is AZ on the fronts and laws are in place on the windshield. I was thinking darker because my car is white, and all of the accents are black, and my wheels to be delivered this week are black!
