hello everyone!
After 25 years of dreaming, I finally did it and purchased a '99 Carrera c2 Cab, ocean blue.
For the last 4 weeks since it arrived, everyone says that I have this non stop silly grin on my face!
I knew that I would be happy, but seriously.......I can't wait to wake up each morning so I can drive the car!
Brought the car in from California and the previous owner had modified it with headers and a cold air intake (very clean solid installation). So sound is amazing when you accelerate hard and yet very quiet when cruising so it doesn't wear on the ears.
I do have a question that maybe someone can comment on.........when I accelerate at half throttle, the acceleration is smooth and quick right up to the redline. However, if I "mash" it, in 3rd gear and up, it seems to "bog down" between 4 and 5000 rpm and then picks up again and revs smoothly to the redline.
I won't say that it's a "misfire" but rather the feeling is either too little, or too much air or fuel in that rpm range.
I'm wondering if the effect of the headers/air intake need to be compensated by a change to the programming in the computer, or something else?
Any comments/experience on this would be great.

Kudos on the 996 and becoming a member before post #1... I was the same way when my 2001 came in... like a kid at Christmas... we are very fortunate people, let's not forget that.
Congratulations on your new car, you will find that most here have the same passion! I can't help with the bogging down, but I am sure someone here can help. I suggest that you post some pics of your car and list some options before the pic police (aka Tim
) get to you!
*EDIT* - Variocam kicks in 1000 rpm higher, around 5500, not 4500. So I'm not sure what your issue is. My dynos all show a nice consistent curve from 2000-5500, then a HP sag from 5500-5800, then a steeper curve to 6400 where it flattens out to redline. This is all done in a straight increasing run, so you'll likely see differences as you are shifting and such.
I have dyno charts of my car on multiple dynos on multiple pulls, and you can see the effect on the charts.

Welcome!
I know what you mean about the sound - I have modified intakes/headers/exhausts and it makes a mean growl when you put your foot down. Don't worry, the grinning and the checking out the car in the garage will wear off.... in around 6 months.

Welcome and congratulations to your new car. Would love to see some pics.
I'm on month 3 of ownership and I still get hypnotized every time I go out in the garage. The car has been in the shop for RMS leak since Thursday last week (had some other stuff done at the same time) and I really miss her already. Can't wait to pick her up tomorrow.
