a/c noise

a/c noise
So I post my car for sale, and the gods read the add....
Yesterday, when I started the car, there was (and still is) a loud noise coming from the a/c fan. It becomes audible at about 1/3 fan speed level, and get's really loud at about 2/3 speed. It sounds, literally, like someone put a playing card in the fan (like when a kid puts one on their bike wheel) only "fuller" or "deeper" in quality.
Is it the whole system? Or just the fan?
Need to fix it in case anyone asks about the car......
Thanks

Check the cabin air filter. It is located next to the battery compartment under the hood. Right side of the car; you will have to remove the black plastic cover to see it. There might be a bad seal or the filter may need to be replaced.

There have been a few cases of insulating foam getting caught in the fan.

Thanks to you both. You were both partially right.
It was foam. But not on the inside of the system where Loren suggested. I removed it from UNDER the air filter. Had to reach in to the duct, found a fan assemly that rotated. Rotated it by hand to see if I could get some of the noise, and after a near full revolution found some foam. Removed it and voila, noise gone.
Then spent 30 minutes getting the bulkhead under the passenger dash back in place. And because I'm so unhandy, Loren, I never got past the bulkhead as I couldn't figure out what came next. So I checked the air filter area out of frustration.....
