Just get the B&M unit from our SITE , at $199 it's the best bang for the buck. You won't be disappointed.

I don't know if anyone has done it. I do know that the B&M part is the same for the 996 and for the 997, which makes me think the 997 part will fit in the 996. It is indeed shorter than the 996 shifter and longer than the B&M.

My friend used 997 SSK on his 01 996 C2 and it will fit 996 C4S, since the shifters are the same for C2 and C4S. However, it is a bit more money that B&M. We bought it from Sunset Porsche for $430.

I do not know anyone who put the stock 997 shift in a 996. I do not know why someone would do this.

The factory 997 short shift will fit a 996. It will also fit a 986 Boxster. A local 2001 986 owner did this last year. The 997 shift is not as short as a B&M and that is why the 986 owner chose the 997 short shift instead of the B&M.

The factory 997 unit is not notchy like the B&M, yet it shortens the throw...I have heard of some with Boxsters doing it...they liked the results. The key is to get a good deal on it.
