997 PCM on a 996?

997 PCM on a 996?
I was wondering if a 997 PCM can be fit into a 996? Does anyone have experiences on this? and how hard is it? My friend has a brand new PCM off of his 997 and does not want it anymore...

Nope. Won't fit.
A few months back I bought a complete kit off ebay and to my surprise, it wouldn't fit.
The first clue was the shape of the trim surround. In the 996 the stereo trim is up/down and basically square. The 997 surround is trapezoidal.
The next issue that would follow would be a software and communication with the OBC. This end of it is what was giving me trouble as there was no way to verify that the two pieces of equipment could or would actually communicate with each other.
I eventually sold the kit to another user that has a newer model Cayman. It fit right in but he still needed to order and have loaded in the newer or latest version of software for the NAV to work. This was after the dealer activated the system for his OBC to 'see' the new addition.
