Default C2S vs. C2

Hey All,

Could someone please tell me, on a 996, what are the differences between a C2 and a C2S ?

- Also, on the preowned market, what is the difference in price between the C2 and C2S models?
What was the price difference when they were new?

Thanks,
B

Hi,

I don't think the 996 was ever produced as a C2S. Only as a C4S. The main differences is that the body looks similar to a turbo body....it's a "wide body". The front facia is similar. However, there is no side air intakes, nor is there a stock fixed wing.

The C4S does have a rear reflector that differentiates itself from any other 996....part of it's charm in my opinion. Turbo sized wheels as well with Big Red Brakes....wider tires than the c2 or c4 stocks. Interior, it has standard full leather, auto seats, and bose sound system. There are some other differences...I'll let some others add to what I've indicated.

Pricewise, the difference was about 9 or 10 grand. Thje difference in pre owned is about 7 grand, give or take. I haven't seen a 996, C2S....only in the 993 models.

How's that sound for a 996 newbie??

Jon

In the 996's all S models are termed C4S with the '4' meaning all wheel drive. In the 997's the S model can be had in either two or four wheel drive. The C4S is also a wide body like the TT. The power plant is however the same as a standard C2, 320 HP. The difference in price depends on the options and can vary between 10k to 20k. The interior is typical 996 fair.

No, the C2 is a 3.6L engine with 325hp and the C2S is a 3.8L engine with 355hp... +23lb-ft of torque in the C2S.

It's a nice machine - lighter and more nimble than the C4S... ask me how I know this and what my next Porsche is going to be.

Correct but in a 997, as stated earlier no C2S 996s.

As others stated no C2S 996 only a C4S.

The main differences are turbo rear fenders (wider) and turbo brakes. The car also has an uprated suspension to deal with the additional weight and take advantage of the wider tires.

I have occasionally heard the 996 C2 with the x51 package referred to as a "C2S" but it was never officially named or badged a C2S. Variants on the 996 C2 are the millennium edition and the 40th anniversary edition

not to stray off topic but i'd pick a 997 c4s over a 997 Carrera S for its widebody looks alone, though harder to notice than in the 996 line-up

997 C2S is widebody. It is lighter than the C4S and as a result more responsive.

You are incorrect dude... the 997 Carrera S is narrower than the 997 C4S thus the narrowbody

Actually, dude, he IS correct - 997 C2S and 997 C4S have the exact same body and 3.8L engine. Only difference is the extra weight of the 4WD system...and its cost.

Ben is correct. The 997 C4S is wider than the 997S. The C4S has the TT body and brakes, and suspension. If you look in motor trend magazine, the performance of these 997's, either in S or C4S variant, is almost identical.

triode.....actually YOU are incorrect. The C2 and C2S are the same platform with just a different size motor. The C4 and C4S are the same (and about 2 inches wider) and just have the 3.6 vs. 3.8 as option as well.
