Default Trunk latch not closing (not the releasing high enough problem)

There are many threads regarding the trunk release not popping the hood high enough.

I am having a problem with the trunk where the trunk release releases fine but cannot close the trunk shut. Is there an easy DIY or do I have to replace the locking mechanism?

TIA

There was a very well done recent DIY on this subject....do an archive search. I'm not sure if it was on Rennlist or over on RennTech....sorry I can't be more specific. I had a problem with mine and bought a used one from a wrecked 99....then I saw the DIY on how to fix the old one.

Sometimes the bolts that hold in the latch mechanism loosen up, causing the hood to be unable to close... Simple fix, is pull back the carpet a little where the latch is and see if the two bolts are there.

I used to have this issue with my old 996. Ross

I tore it apart last night. The spring had tension and really could not figure out exactly how to tightnen the spring up. Its 7 yrs old, I'll just replace it with a new bottom latch.

I read the DIY on RennTech last night but that issue was one of the spring hooks coming off the hole. It was excellent in helping me take it apart and messing with it.

I now have a problem where the manual eye hook pull from the right wheel well got pulled out of place. Anyone can help me with a pic on where it is suppose to go so you can get to it in the event of needing a manual trunk release?

Thanks

I had a similar problem...only the front latch froze shut..had to take off the bumper..ugly process. At any rate, the wire cable usually runs behind the passenger's side headlight, thru a small hole there.

When I had my problem, I couldn't fish it thru that small hole behind the headlight, so I simply re-routed it to come out in the area adjacent to the front passenger's side radiator. Just reroute the cable to that area, then affix a black zip tie to the loop in the end of the cable it, stuff the cable back up out of sight so only the zip tie hangs down in there. That way, no one can see a cable, and the black zip tie is almost invisible in there. If you have to use the emergency opener, just pull on the black zip tie, the cable drops down and Viola!
