Default Specific Coolant Tank Replacement Questions

Hello all,

I also have the dreaded coolant tank leak and am looking to change it out myself. In searching the archives some have said that the '02 3.6L change might be a little more difficult requiring:

1. Cutting one of the tabs off the new tank to get it into position.

2. Lowering the engine to create more room to place the new tank.

For the life of me I can't find a picture of which tab to cut or instructions on how to safely lower the engine. If anyone has more specific tips or advice I'd be most appreciative. I've also searched Renntech and posted this question in the DIY section also

Thanks!

forget instructions, just take out whatever is in the way of the tank. The more you take out the easier it is to take the tank out. Its alot easier when its in front of you than pics. Youll fumble your way through (like the rest of us have), but youll be fine.

You dont have to lower the engine.

Redridge,

Thanks for your comments. Can you please tell me how long it took you to complete this repair and if you have the 3.4 or 3.6 L motor. It sounds like the 3.6 coolant tanks are larger and thus harder to wedge into place.

I appreciate your feedback!

Tonger,
I think you have it backwards.
01 and on have bigger tanks... but are supposed to be easier to install.
I did my 01 in about 2 hrs as i remember. I posted a DIY somewhere, and the links on RennTech are really good.
No need at all to drop the engine.
As i remember.

Remove the Air Box snorkel... or the whole air box if you choose.
Remove the secondary air pump (smog pump ?)
On the C4 Cab, the fuel filter is located right up in the back. Remover this (one hose clamp and the quick release fuel lines).
Drain the coolant from the plug in the bottom of the case
Disconnect 4? water hoses.
Remove the level sensor wires and on 01's and newer you can remove the sensor so you dont damage it. 1/4 turn and it pulls right out. On 99-00 i think this is much harder to get out or not removable
Disconnect the fuel lines from the engine.
At this point i cut the tab off with a dremmel. If you start to try to remove the tank you will immediatly see the problem tab. Renn tech has the picture with the tab circled. Its just the back right edge of the tab need removing.
Then enjoy trying to twist and turn the damn tank out :-)
