Funny, we have the exact same vehicles.. Anyway, I used mine today with the top down and a dash board reading of 90 degrees. It worked fine.

I use the manual setting too. It is 90+F here and I noticed the air temperature set at 69 deg was not as effecient as it was a couple weeks ago.
My solution -turn temp down to 64 deg.
There has to be a way to re-charge the system.
Now lets find out how.

Our 1999 a/c blows nice and cold but It did require a repair a few year ago. I'm not sure what the part number is, but it is a line that runs under the car from the engine (presumably compressor) to the front condensor. Not too cheap, and it was back-ordered over a month so I'm assuming it may be a common fault. The a/c works far better than our ML, but I'm not sure as well as our old 928 did. On a side note, we still have a 2000 Cavalier Z24 (no jokes please - it was my car at university and now my fathers daily run about - and possibly the most reliable car we've had..) and it has by far a better a/c system than any German car, new or otherwise we've ever owned. If there is one thing the American's can do it's a/c!

Yes.....I LOVE my a/c...due to the fact that my air cooled targa's a/c was basically non existent. It was ninety here today.....no issues with the a/c....never really had it over half blast too long. I did notice some outside fogging btw....just a bit...nothing that obscured my view.
I do notice however that in the center vents....the left vent blows a bit less than the right...anyone else have that? and yes...both vents are fully open with the side adjustment.

Mine gets high marks on the "Nipple Meter" and I turn it on briefly whenever I drive the car in the Fall and Winter.

I have seen some triple digit temps in bright sun here the past week. It has mostly been ~95, but it most certainly has been triple digit at times. AC is enough to freeze you out, even with the fabric top.
100% it works better than my ML.
