OK, OK, I ran out quickly and shot a couple of pics. For some reason the flash dosen't work so this is the best I could do.

Notice in the first pic how much narrower the bottom of the lower tray is compared to the upper tray. This is why these are not interchangable.

It does look bare that way compared to most cars,
however, it's more useful that way, rather than have that CD storage tray that's never used.
Most people have a CD changer in the trunk anyway, I do.
And there is not much room in our cars really to store much! A wallet and a cellphone will take up one tray.

Actually, between the rear center console, the upper/lower storage trays if you replace the CD/Cassette slots, the glove compartment, and the two pretty good sized compartments in either door, I'm kinda surprised how much room their is to stash stuff in these cars.

And that doesn't even count the back seat, which, let's be honest, is really just a padded cargo area - no way I'm actually going to put live human beings above the age of 10 back there

I presume that you can easily reverse this mod right?

I might get one and try it out to see if I like it.

Tim - thanks for posting the pic - I have the equalizer along the bottom, so this comforts me in knowing how the upper of the two trays will fit and will ensure that I order the right one. You're very helpful, as always!

I don't/didn't have the cassette tray, but it should come out if you just pull it straight out.

Cassettes! In 2002! My X5 had the absurb cassette holders in the center console bin, and replacing that with the bigger, empty bin was my frst mod. Germans...

I ordered the bin, and the smoker delete rear console unit from Eric. Should make my glove compartment-less car a little more storage friendly.
