I had the 10-spoke 17" wheels when I bought my car. I switched to 18" 5-spoke to get the wider tires and firmer sidewalls specifically because I was unhappy with the braking performance.

Those are my favorite wheels, but they're too small. I wish they came in 18"; I'd have them. Get 18" wheels if you upgrade. I think they look best.

I am going to run 18" 5-spokes for summer and these 17" 10-spokes for winter. Pothole protection outweighs any minor gains from an 18" wheel (the car would be tracked with 18").

Carpundit - the 996 GT3 wheel looks very similar and is available in 18", although they are 8.5 and 11 wide versus 8 x 10 for the regular 18s.
