Default Cost for checking fault codes

So, what will a dealer charge me to pull the fault codes from the OBD II port? I haven't had any CEL's but I plan on doing my 30K mile service myself and the manual says to check the fault codes with every service.

Sould I just buy a scanner and do it myself?
Thanks,
Andy

Depends,

Free if you have a good relationship. I was able to sit in the car with the tech and play around. It's kind of coll to see what the tester can do.

After I changed dealerships I needed some info pulled and they charged me $40
