I had the same issue- with the coolant tank, that is. It's a common problem. I discovered that the coolant expansion tank replacement is a matter of when, not if, with 996's. I ordered the new tank and new cap from Sunset. Just to check ( a suggestion from this forum), I first replaced the cap, which has a new design, and a different part number than the old one- if the part number ends in 01, you've got the new one. I didn't- my 1999 had the old design cap. There's an overflow "gulley" around the cap, with a drain tube leading down to the ground. I put the new one on (had to add about 1 cup of distilled H2O to get the level correct), and since then, no leaks at all, even after some stop and go driving in recent warm weather and traffic, which made the temp guage move slightly up. Highway speeds- needle right back to 12 o'clock. No loss of coolant at all since the switch, the level has remained the same. So for now, that solved my problem. But I'm keeping the new tank, as it WILL need to be replaced eventually. The cap may solve your problem, or the tank may indeed have cracked. I would try the cap first. Good Luck!

A man goes to a shrink and says, "Doctor, my wife is unfaithful to me. Every evening, she goes to Larry's bar and picks up men.
In fact, She sleeps with anybody who asks her! I'm going crazy.
What do you think I should do?"
"Relax," says the Doctor, "take a deep breath and calm down. Now, tell me, exactly where is Larry's bar?"

I hate you ...................... JK!!!! That was pretty funny
All in good fun.. of course, I've never met you, or your girlfriend. Though if she looks anything like in the pic below, I'd love to meet her someday.

You, on the other hand - it depends - stocked the fridge back up yet?

- Nick

If you notice something leaking down from the rear of your girlfriend....that might be a clue.
Boulder Nick, what's my wife doing in your car?

are you sure it was a coolant leak??? Or was it your girlfriend and her new boyfriend getting it on on the back of your P??? and he had to "leave church before the singing started".....and created a "coolant-leak-looking-you-know-what!!"
