Porsche Stock Sport Exhaust Heavier & Slower?
I read a comment on a thread about the Porsche Stock Sport Exhaust being heavier and having no power gains over the regular stock exhaust.
Is this true?
If so, I'm a little bummed as my "new" 2002 P-car comes with the sport exhaust and I was looking forward to a little extra power. This blows my mind that a performance-oriented car manufacturer would have a "sport" upgrade resulting in a downgrade in performance.

Settle thy heart.
No basic aftermarket bolt-on such as an exhaust is going to give you any sort of power advantage over a stock unit and this is true for naturally aspirated engines.
It's for sound and looks and that goes along way to enhancing the driving/ownership experience, imo. The PSE unit sounds insanely good and it's the only way to fly the 911.

PSE is sick. The best part is that it gets SOOOO much better over time. It sounds so good that all the prada mommies in Georgetown say "that's obnoxious" when they hear it, which is the automobile equivalent of the "Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval"

I'm not sure I agree with that statement Benjamin. At lower RPMs your point is valid but at higher RPMs you should see a small horsepower gain (maybe 10hp). At least that's the way I read many of the dyno charts. Also, it does sound better and you will usually save weight.

Ha! Ok, let's see if we can get some of the real 996 guru's to chime in. This is one of those topics, like oil types and brake pads, that always brings out differences of opinion. I'm no genius but I just rolled this topic around with one of our local aircooled Porsche mechanic geniuses. I took your side in that arguement Benjamin and he shot me down. lol.
ps: I'm not casting stones at you brother, you could be one of the 996 geniuses for all I know. Just trying to stimulate some convo on the topic. Yeah Yeah, I know it's been done over and over and over before but in a sick twisted way, I still like to see these threads evolve. Something new usually comes out every time.

IMHO, you are not going to gain much w/an exhaust on the 996. In fact some aftermarket exhaust have been shown to lose hp (dyno).
Chip, headers, and intake are your best bets from what I have seen on a 996 (short of FI) and even with those mods you'll spend a lot for moderate gains.
If you want a proven increase from the factory get the X51 kit (be prepared to get out your check book).

Porsche themselves claim zero HP gain. If they could, I'm sure they would and it would cost an extra grand or two.
PSE is, IMHO, one of the top 3 best options you can get. It's one of those things on a car that once you have it, you know you will never ever be able to live without it again.
It is worth an extra 2 or 3 points on the grin scale never mind HP!
