Default Door-opening window operation

Normally, when you just pull the door handle, the window retracts a few milimeters in order to clear the seal. When I operate either inside or outside handle of the driver's door, I can hear the motor operate momentarily, but the window does not move down enough. Once open, you can press the window down to where it normally would stop, and can also pull it back up. Otherwise, the window goes up and down without incident. I want to remove the door panel to see how this mechanism works. Anyone BTDT. There are no visible clips or screws on the panel - and I'm a little concerned about the airbag.

Thanks

Sounds like a bad regulator. Searching here for "window regulator" will get you a lor of information. There's a great DIY write-up for Boxsters, which are effectively the same, right here

I replaced a regulator on a boxster that had those same exact symptoms. Don't recall the price though but is a failrly straight forward install so can easily be a DIY.

Bad regulator and plenty of easy DIY's here and on Renntech. New mine was around $180 I think? Might not be the right price???

Took the panel off as described. Airbag looks ridiculous when exposed - like a large firecracker. The goop holding the insulation in place is incredibly resistant. In any event, I could not find anything obviously wrong or out of adjustment, and suspect that you are correct that the regulator needs to be replaced. I have an aftermarket warranty which should cover it.

Thanks

Try normalizing the window position first.

I think you do that by holding the button in the up position for an extended period after the glass is clearly already all the way up.
