Default fluid change consensus

OK - I realize from my reading so far that this is a contentious issue. but what the heck:

1) What oil is appropriate for a northern west coast climate (ie vancouver, where it rarely freezes, and rarely gets really hot).

2) What is an appropriate oil change interval for a daily driven, sometimes tracked and autocrossed 2002 996 with 40K miles? I plan to put 12K - 15K miles per year on the car. Half highway, half city.

3) What is the appropriate transmission fluid for the same set of conditions.

I'm looking for kind of a consensus view, not radical views on either side please. I know Porsche has recomendations, but I don't have my car (or it's manual) yet and am a bit on the lazy side so might not get around to reading it right away anyway.

Thanks!

Click here for maintenance intervals for fluids, etc.

You may have to register to access these checklists. The net of it is that for ROW cars (I would assume that includes Canada, as we have not invaded there yet...) the oil change is 20KM or 12K miles, and for US cars it is 15K miles or 24Km.

Go figure. The US maintenance intervals are geared around emissions standards.
