Lifting the front of a 996
Yesterday I wanted to take off the front tires of my 911 to get them balanced without having to take the whole car.. I could not find a central jacking point on the front suspension and I did not feel like leaving the car hanging on my floor jack for the whole day...I could put the spare tire on one side but the other side is the problem.. is there any central point where I could lift the car from the front and place 2 fixed jack on each side of the car??
Thanks,
Greg

Simple solution. You need to use the REAR jacking points to raise the front so you can place jack stands in place at the FRONT jacking points. Do this for both sides and you are set!

I tried that, but I would have to lift the car A LOT at the back in order to place the jack at the front Jacking points.. I dont feel comfortable doing it that way...Thanks anyway..

If they are the same ones I have the 3 ton Caftsman jack stands are very tall and may make Dell's process a little scary. I only use them on my truck. You really want some fairly short stands.
You don't have many choices. Do it Dell's way (with shorter stands) which we have all done many times. Buy another jack which is always handy to have anyway. Or, put a 4x4 between the front suspension mounts and lift in the center which I would never suggest to anyone that does't spend a lot of time working on their car.

The sheetmetal NEXT to the lifting tabs is strong enough to lift the entire front end. I know, my Father jacked my car up there as I was screaming to stop!!!
It held with flying colors and I asked him why he didnt stop and he said "it is reinforced 2 or 3 wall sheetmetal, plus you dont have an engine up there". Cant mess with 50 years of experience.
Anyways, I put jack stands and the jack itself in between the two bolts that are on a bracket that the lower A-arms are attached to.
Second way is take off the jack pad and jack at the point of the lifting tabs, have to be careful it doesnt slip as nothing is engaged in the lifting tab hole.
