Default Starter problem

Hi, I send my car to Porsche, they told me it's the starter gear problem & they recommend to replace the starter which cost $$$$.
Another workshop electrician told me the starter can be service & it usually cost a couple of hundred. The only worry is that they cannot find the starter gear.
Has anyone replace the starter gear before & where can I get them?
I was also told that they are the same as the Mercedes starter parts.
Would appreciate your input.
Thanks.

Yes, I think there is only one starter gear.
The car sometime do not start on first crack & there is sound of the starter gear slipping off when starting the engine.
It don't happened everytime, sometimes it start on first crank.

Highly unlikely the gear is bad, proably just the bendix spring. You should be able to find a place to rebuild it.
