Larry, the driver's side mirror control is held in at the three points of the triangle. The bottom two points are pushed straight in. The top is a U shaped hook. Gently pull at the base. Once you have the base pulled out, lift up and the top will come out. If you are gentle and don't pull the top, you won't have a problem. I just removed mine to check. I have had it off several times with no problems.

Best tool for the interior is a plastic wedge (think doorstop). Works wonders, and is actually referenced in most of the Porsche tech manuals for interior trim removal.
