I have a 4+ car Tandem garage that I have been remodeling just so my Targa is happy when sleeping
. I had high quality custom all wood cabinets made and can't decide on how to finish them. Should I go Grey like the lower walls, White or just clear over them like they are now. I am worried that if I clear them it will look too much like a kitchen and not like a shop.
I have looked on Gauragejournal but most of them are pre-builts.
What would you do?????
Input appreciated.

I think I would do a light stain to bring out their natural color, though a cherry stain might go pretty well also. I love wood, always like to bring out the grain when I can. I think I stole one of your pictures for my sig. Mines an 03 Targa that looks just like yours so you know i mean it when I say: Sweet ride!

Porsche_Smile thanks this will be fun to look over
03Targa, We must have stolen these pictures from the same shoot.
I have been thinking about a stain too. Maybe something a little darker like you say to bring out the grain (birch).
We should check vin numbers and see how far apart our cars were built because mine is also an 03. Is yours Meridian Metalic?

Wow, that's a pretty big garage you've got but also weird looking layout. I would do a ''colonial'' stain. I looks like a shade of caramel. I would not paint white or any light color since every light dirty finger prints will show and might even stain the cabinets.
Good luck!!
Good luck!!

I would not paint the wood cabinets, a light stain or clear coat, but no paint - it will cheapen the nice woodwork. I would also epoxy the floor, proper prep is key, and do not use the rustoleum (sp?) it is junk. Looks great so far, good luck.

The floor will be the next hurdle.

I actually started with just stain for the same reason, I didn't want to hide the wood. But after a year, I'm going to paint them black. The natural look is hard to keep clean if your always working in the garage like I do, and with a black/silver tool box, and a new black/silver fridge and floor paint with grey walls I think the black will look better and more like a garage. I had my brother in law comment that the wood does look like the kitchen.

Ok, my cabinet maker reminded me that the wood is paint grade Birch. It would not stain evenly so... Today I primed it white. Now it looks like a white kitchen
I am too damn tired to take a picture but will do it Sunday. I think Black or Grey is what it will end up.

I would paint it a high gloss white or grey. The light colors will reflect the light and make the garage seem larger and brighter. The high gloss will also look somewhat industrial and easy to keep clean. You could also have some thin stainless steel panels made to face the cabnet doors with. This would have a great look, reflective qualities and very easy to clean.
