Default 18s vs 19s

All

My 2001 C4 currently has OEM 18" turbo twists on her. I’m in the market for some new wheels and aside from the normal offset confusion; I can’t seem to get passed deciding between 18" or 19" rim sizes.

I was hoping that you can shed some light on the + and - to both.

To start it off, I have heard the following;

19s
Damage easier -
Look better +
Will affect my Speedo -

18s
Better ride quality +
Don’t look as nice -
I can still use my existing tires +/- (sumitomo)

I disagree that 19s look better. They look silly to me. 18s are lighter, which is most important. 19s will give you a bigger contact patch (more grip) but I would stay with the 18s.

I'll chime in and say that I think 19's look silly as well. Too large for this car.

I'll disagree (my opinion only). The 996 and 997 are basically the same size and share essentially the same size wheel well openings. The 997 looks great with 19's and, imo, so does the 996. Personally, I think the 18's look a little small on the car.

As for weight, yes that will be a negative. I've also heard the ride won't be as good as with the 18's.

Just my opinion, of course.

I recently traded my 2004 C4S on a new 2007 C4S and think the 19" wheels look great. The new car with PASM rides as smooth or maybe even better than my 996 with 18" wheels. However, if I still owned my 996 I would stick with the 18" wheels for the benefits mentioned above. IMHO the cosmetic improvement is not great enough to overcome the negatives.

I have both.
I use the 19's for the street. They look awsome, but damage real easy, and throw off your speedometer (further than it already is) they also weight more, and make your ride feel more "bumpy"
I use the 18's (with DOT R compound tires) on the track. The ride quality and performance is way superior.

I have 19s - car is also lowered, and handles incredibly well, and the wheels look fab (get compliments all the time)...in addition, since they're forged aluminum (Champion RG5), they're probably LIGHTER than your factory 18s...

I have 19's....I like them better....They are lighter than my 18" twists...and lighter than ALL the OEM wheels except the Carrera Lightweights, and even then not by much...MAYBE a pound at the rear...I have mroe rubber on the road..and my ride is NOT worse...just depends on the tires and suspension combo.....I am using PSS9's....In my opinion this doesnt look "silly"...I thought my 18's looked silly because they looked too small.

Here is my car on 18's....look at the rear...looks like they are 16's...lol...those are 18x10's with 285's....

Same car on 19's.....

Just my opinion...but the 18's looked more 'silly'...maybe the 19's look better with the Aero kit and lowered suspension....maybe the 18's look better without the Aero and at stock height.
