All of you guys who were saying "best mod ever" may be right...I thought you were exaggerating. Had it done today and am loving the rifle-bolt positive action; notchiness is pleasant to my sensibilities.

Thanks for turning me on to this cheap & sensational mod.

Also had laser blinder installed today...looking forward to exercising my right foot more liberally.

It's similar to the PPK and James Bond. SSK and the 996. Perfect match.
I just installed mine in on the 19th, hardly used it since but can say it's definitely better....

Make sure that with the new SSK installed and the notchiness still existing for the next 200+ miles (until it gets smoothed out) that you pull REALLY hard into second gear. I didn't do that and now my second gear grinds sometimes when I shift into it. When I say hard, I mean: don't just slide it in...you have to force it in with a little authority. Good Luck!

I get it!

Try coming from a 930 to this C4S and you might think the 996 is KILLER! Can't imagine what a short shift version of this unit must be like?? Why don't we just take it to the point where if a light breeze hits it you get second?

I have never driven a 930, so I can't compare the throws from it to a stock 996 shifter. However, the standard OEM shifter had rather long throws front to back. If you don't think these are long, you may have a SSK that was installed by the PO (if you bought a used car).
